A Sober Living House for Punjabi Men
Vaapsi Recovery Home is British Columbia’s first culturally responsive sober living house, designed specifically for Punjabi men recovering from substance use and mental health challenges. Recognizing the disproportionate impact of addiction and overdose deaths in the community, Vaapsi provides a structured, substance-free environment that supports long-term recovery and reintegration into society.
Unlike inpatient rehabilitation centers, Vaapsi is not a treatment facility—instead, it serves as a transitional sober living home where residents develop stability, accountability, and independence while accessing professional support services through referrals.
Key Features of Vaapsi as a Sober Living Home
- Substance-Free Environment – Residents commit to living in an alcohol- and drug-free home to maintain sobriety.
- Peer Support & Accountability – Living alongside others in recovery fosters mutual encouragement and personal responsibility.
- Structured Daily Routine – Residents follow a balanced schedule of counseling, personal reflection, life skills development, and Seva (selfless service).
- Gradual Transition to Independence – Unlike rehab, residents can work, attend school, or engage in community service while still receiving structured support.
- Wraparound Support Referrals – While Vaapsi provides a stable recovery-focused environment, we connect residents to professional counseling, addiction support services, medical care, and employment training through our community partners.
At Vaapsi, we do not provide medical detox or clinical addiction treatment—instead, we work with trusted organizations to ensure each resident has access to mental health professionals, addiction specialists, and rehabilitation programs while benefiting from the stability and structure of sober living.
Healing Through Sikhi & Community
Rooted in Sikh principles and holistic healing, Vaapsi integrates:
- Seva (selfless service) – Helping others as part of the recovery journey.
- Naam Simran (meditation & mindfulness) – Finding strength through spiritual practice.
- Kirat Karo (honest living & responsibility) – Encouraging employment, education, and self-sufficiency.
- Sangat (community connection & support) – Building strong peer relationships and preventing isolation.
Recovery is not just about overcoming addiction—it is about rebuilding a meaningful life with dignity, purpose, and connection. Vaapsi ensures that residents are not alone in their journey, providing them with a safe space to heal, grow, and reintegrate into society.”
